Welcome to U7 Boys Soccer -- 2011 Season

04/24/2011, 4:15am (CDT)
By Clark Kristensen

Greetings from the coach ...

Hi Everyone:

Below is a final roster of boys that will be on the team:
Eddie Darosa
Ben Broich
Joey Padelford
Brendan Bonin
Noah Kristensen
Nick Distad
Nicky Morrison
Tyler Whitehead
Adam Rausch
Joey Braum
Shawn Flaherty
Alex Lohmann

Welcome to a new soccer season!

I will serve as your son's soccer coach, assisted by James Darosa (Eddie's dad), Brian Distad (Nick's dad), and Daniel Whalen (Tyler's dad).

For those of you who don't know, James and I coached together last fall.  Brian and Daniel will be new to caching; however, Daniel informs me that he graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 2003 and was named to the All State honorable mention and All Conference teams on defense.

Mike Taugner, our acting Area Level Coordinator (ALC), has sent you a number of emails to keep you informed about the upcoming season.

As Mike says: "first and foremost, we're here to help the boys have a fun and enjoyable season".

 FIRST PRACTICE

I'd like to have a first practice session at Lakeaires Elementary School @ 3-4 pm on Sunday, May 1st (the Sunday after Easter).

PRACTICE SCHEDULE (Tentative)

Following this practice, we will schedule regular practices on WEDNESDAY evenings @ 6-7 pm at Lakeaires Elementary school.  The school is located just East of White Bear Avenue, in between Cedar Avenue and County Road F.

TRAINING
Please block out your calendars for the following 2 days.
The WBSC (White Bear Soccer Club) will be providing free soccer training to all of the U7 boys.

    * Wednesday, May 18th - 5:30 to 6:30 at the Oneka Elementary Fields
    * Wednesday, May 25th - 5:30 to 6:30 at the Oneka Elementary Fields
CONTENT OF PRACTICES

Practice and drills will tend to focus on the following:
**  Proper technique  (passing, shooting)
**  Communication (starting to play together and communicate as a team: pass to open player, talk to one another on defense)
**  Defense (primary defender attacks the ball, other defenders are in position to support/defend keys areas)
The best way for the kids to learn and improve is to PLAY.  Therefore, all practices will have a 15-20 minute scrimmage (4 on 4, 5 on 5, or 6 on 6 -- depending on how many boys are there).  I've spoken with Mike Taugner about scheduling a scrimmage with his team (which would probably be on a Sunday afternoon ~ 4pm.

For boys that are new to soccer and/or want some additional practice, let me know.  My son likes kicking the soccer ball around and I live just across from Lakeaires Elementary school -- and I'm open to scheduling additional practices, providing that there is adequate interest.

COMMUNICATION DURING THE SEASON
In terms of communication during the year, I prefer to contact everyone via email, but can follow up with you via phone as well.

This
is the first year that the White Bear Soccer Club is on Facebook.  Additionally, we will set up our Team site on the main White Bear Soccer Club web site to allow you to access information during the season (practice/game schedules, snack schedule, links to soccer videos/manuals/age-appropriate drills, etc...).

*****************************************************************************************

SOCCER ATTIRE

Each boy should have the following.
    size 3 soccer ball
    shin guards
soccer uniform (1 white and 1 orange shirt)
    outdoor soccer shoes (recommended)
    water bottle

SNACK SCHEDULE
At the first few practices, we will have parents sign up to provide snack (e.g. grips cheese-its and juice, granola bar and water, fruit, etc...).
