Parents League

Parents League

The Parent's League in White Bear Lake is non-competitive and open to players of all levels. Games run from June to September on Sunday nights.  Teams are co-ed and no experience is required.

The guideline to determine whether or not this league is for you, is that if you played competitive soccer through college, then this is most likely not the league for your skill level. Although we consistently have a lot of players from the surrounding area, generally most players are Mom's and Dad's of WBSC players who come out just for the enjoyment of the game.

Age "Guidelines" (yes, these are only guidelines)
Men – 30 years and up
Women - Post High-School and up (19+ years)

Parent's League Information

Pick-Up Play Beginning May 13, 2012
The 2012 league will start pick-up games on Sunday May 13, May 20, and June 3 at 5:00 p.m. Pick-up games are all played at Polar Lakes Park. The fields are on Hammond Road just west of the White Bear Township offices.

The Season
In early June the league schedule is put together, including teams that played last year, and of course new teams that get organized in May and early June. The "League" play begins on June 10, 2012.  We will not have games on June 17 (Father's Day), July 1 (July 4th Weekend), and Labor Day (September 2)

We have two fields we utilize so game times are 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. every Sunday. League play typically continues until the end of September.

Free Agents
There are always 15-20 people who want to play but do not have a team. Sometimes we organize them into a brand new team, and other times, we have the managers of the existing teams pick up these players. There is no "draft" per say, the league is just simply not that formal. So whether you are looking for a team, or have enough people to form a team, there is always a place for everyone to play! The easiest way to get involved is to e-mail Scott Snyder at ssnyderwbl@gmail.com and let him know that you are interested in playing.

Rules

The Parent's League follows the core set of rules as established by FIFA. Exceptions would be:

  • Sides are 7 v 7 (including the goalie)
  • Two women are required to be on the field at all times.
  • Field size is 1/2 of regulation.
  • Absolutely no slide tackling of any sort.
  • ALL free kicks are indirect (with the exception of handballs inside the penalty area)
  • Game times are comprised of 2 – 25 minute halves.
  • In order to minimize the effect of more talented players who might dominate a game, each player may only score 1 time per half.
  • Actions by players not consistent with the structure and recreational intent of the league can result in removal of a player from the field, a game suspension, or expulsion from the league. Discipline decisions are made by the league coordinator after consultation with team managers.
  • League standings and game results are not recorded on an ongoing basis.

Fair Play

This league has many people who are playing the game of soccer for the enjoyment and are much less experienced than others. It is expected that those people will get the opportunity to control the ball and make "soccer moves" so that they may enjoy the game just as much as others who possess more skill.

Referees

In 2007 we tested not having referees and the league went all summer with very few incidents. Experience has shown that at this level, adults can monitor themselves and are more than willing to call penalties and out-of-bounds against themselves, all in the name of fair play. So consequently, we have no referees on the field.

Fees
There is a team fee assessed at the beginning of the season to offset the cost of field maintenance including striping of the fields each week. All team fees must be paid to the league coordinator before the first game. No exceptions.

How To Join
If you are interested in the league please e-mail Scott Snyder to be added to the e-mail roster. Once information about field conditions is known in late April and early May, e-mails will be sent to everyone announcing the beginning of the pickup games.

In the meantime, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Scott at 651-492-1012, or via e-mail at SSnyderWBL@Gmail.com
