General Information

Under-11 and older teams are formed through tryouts.  The tryout format will consist of small-sided games (1v1, 2v2, 4v4, 8v8), a 50 yard dash and a number of skill drills. Goalies will tryout the same as field players; however, there will be goalie specific training scheduled.

Each summer coach has also evaluated each player from summer soccer and this assessment will be included in the determination of the final ranking for next summer.

Based on the results of the tryouts, players will be assigned to a team and a coach. Tryout results will be sent to the players after the Fall State Tournament has completed. The results will be sent by November 1,  Since U15 and older are typically playing High School soccer, their results will be sent out sooner.

Player Evaluation

A WBSC tryout consists of two parts - Player evaluations by their summer coach and Tryout Evaluation. The Age Level Director (ALD) and the coaches determine "how much" each evaluation fits in the total evaluation (60 - 40, 50-50, or 40-60). The ALD is responsible for compiling the results from the two parts. A meeting, hosted by the ALD, with the coaches is done. Coaches must pick at least 75% of their team from the top ranked players. In the case of a U11 team, this means that 8 of the players picked must come from the top 12 players evaluated; for a U14 team, 12 of the players picked must come from the top 16 players evaluated. The coach is then allowed discretionary choices to complete the team roster.

Coaching Evaluation
The success of the White Bear Soccer Club is dependent on dedicated volunteers and our coaches are the front line of those volunteers. Good coaches are capable of motivating players with positive affirmations and teaching players with effective methods. Your input and evaluation of our coaches is an important part of ensuring that we identify and acknowledge those coaches that are doing a good job.

We ask all parents to evaluate the coaching their player has received.  For validation purposes, we do track your login with the survey, but your responses will be kept confidential and sent only to our Director of Coaching and Director of Competitive Player Development.

ALD Information to consider when scheduling tryouts :

  1. Review the Age Level Director Handbook  for the most current set of rules and guidelines.
  2. Determine the split for player evaluations - what percent is the evaluator; what percent is the coaches' evaluation
  3. Distribute Player Evaluations to coaches
  4. Sample Forms (Coaches evaluation, player evaluation, waiver, invitation, etc) can be found on the coaches resource page.
